PAIDE History

In the heart of Mandaluyong City, Philippines lies a humble, young and yet progressive institution for aspiring interpreters, which boasts not of some glitz and glamour but on the comprehensive and rock-hard training it offers on sign language interpreting. It was December 16, 1996 when The Philippine Association of Interpreters for Deaf Empowerment (PAIDE), Inc. (formerly Registry of Interpreters for Deaf Empowerment or RIDE), was established by a group of educators.

PAIDE is a private institution duly recognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with COMPANY REG. NO. CN200520981. The primary concern of which is to train responsible, righteous and self-giving individuals in the various fields of interpreting, e.g., educational, religious, legal, medical, social, industrial, performing arts and the like to serve as a voice for the hard of hearing and Deaf individuals.

PAIDE's first Chief Executive Officer was Ms. Lilia L. Alagde, a dedicated and hard working lady who can very well be remembered for her enthusiasm in interpreting and who had her heart out for the deaf. She was succeeded by no less than Mr. Ricardo B. de los Santos, a pioneer in deaf service who had given his thirteen years for the Deaf.

It was on May 30, 1998, when Mr. Alfredo S. Celada, Jr. was appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of PAIDE. Sir Jun as many fondly call him, has more than a handful of skills and experiences to back this claim.
